Youth Empowerment Through Skills Training

“Ever since I was a kid, I used to play with electrical stuff”

Jane Waithera

Jane Waithera is a Cycle I beneficiary that has been passionate about electricity since she was a child. When she joined KYEOP, she chose the male-dominated Electrical Installation course and was placed with a Mastercraftsman in Nakuru County. During her training, Jane demonstrated a level of hard work and dedication that quickly put her at the top of her class.

It is that same love for her craft that led her to meet the President of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, during the 2018 International Youth Day celebrations in Kisii County.  The president was touring the youth displays at the KYEOP exhibition stand when he was drawn to Jane’s electrical installation model and stopped to ask her about its functionality. Jane confidently explained how her model worked impressing him with her passion.

“I wanted to show the president what we actually do in KYEOP and do it wholeheartedly,” Jane fondly recalls the moment.

When asked what she wanted, Jane took the opportunity to request for a higher education scholarship.   As a result, she is now pursuing a Diploma in Electrical Installation at Nairobi University.
